Romance

Onu yaşamla ölümün, özgürlükle mahkumiyetin, bilinenle bilinmeyenin, çoklukla tekliğin, gitmelerle kalmaların tam arasında gördüm. Hem cesurdu hem de tedirgin. Seçim yapması gerekti çünkü. Seçmek özgür olmak demekti. Özgürlük ise zor işti. Sorumluluk demekti çünkü. Başka bir ihtimal yokken seçmek yoktu. Oysa bir ikincisi bile çıkması ihtimallerin seçmek demekti artık. Üç şey yapabilirdi güzeller güzeli ‘Romance’… Bunlardan ikisi onu  öyle ya da böyle mutlu ederdi. Üçüncüsü onu mutsuz kılacak tek seçenekti.  Benimle gelmek veya orada kalmaktı yapabileceği iki şey. Üçüncüsü tam orta yerde beklemesi olurdu. Benimle gelse orada yaşayacaklarını, orada kalsa benimle yaşayacaklarını kaçıracaktı; ya da benimle gelse beraber yaşayacaklarımızı, kalsa orada yaşayacaklarını kazanacaktı. Ama her ikisini de yapmayıp tam yol ayrımında bekleseydi, sadece bekleyecekti. Hangisinin daha iyi bir fırsat, hangisinin daha iyi bir ihtimal olduğuna bir türlü karar veremediği için bekleyen ya da o kavşakta ayak üstü sevişenler gibi… Ya şunu kaçırırsam diye her gün sevişip aslında kimseyle gerçekten sevişmeyen, sevişmeleri asla kovalarını doldurmayanlar gibi… Herkesin, herkesin içine girdiğini sanırken; kimsenin, kimsenin içine girmediği giremediği o bomboş sevişmeler gibi. Yolların çokluğundan kararsız kalıp oradan dönme özgürlüklerini görmedikleri için korkarak kavşakta bekleyen, seçecekleri bir yolda görecekleri binlerce güzelliği kaçıran ya da o yolun devamındaki binlerce yeni ihtimali ıskalayanlar gibi… -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------I saw her right in the middle of life and death, freedom and captivity, the known and the unknown, the many and the one. She was both brave and anxious because she had to make a choice. Choosing meant being free, and freedom was a difficult thing because it meant responsibility. When there was no other option, choosing was not a choice anymore. However, even having a second possibility was now a choice among possibilities. The beautiful one could do three things: 'Romance.' Two of them would make her happy in one way or another. The third was the only option that would make her unhappy. She could do two things: come with me or stay there. If she came with me, she would miss out on what she would live there; if she stayed, she would gain what she would live with me. But if she didn't do either and just waited at the crossroads, she would only be waiting. Just like those who wait or make love on the spot at the crossroads because they can't decide which is the better opportunity, just like those who make love every day thinking they might miss something and actually never make love with anyone, and just like those who never fulfill their desires because the lovemaking they pursue never fills their emptiness. Like those who, in their indecision caused by the abundance of roads, wait in fear and don't see the freedom to turn back, or like those who miss out on thousands of beauties on the path they choose or miss out on thousands of new possibilities beyond that path.
